THE CITY OF THE STRAIT

Punta Arenas City, capital of the magellanic region and the main urban center of all Chilean - Argentinean Patagonia, is located on the western shore of the strait of Magellan at 53,1 ’ of south latitude. Through a tour of about three hours we can see the hard beginnings of the once penal colony, the golden age in later 19th century, and the present of the southernmost city of the continental America.

MAGELLAN FOREST RESERVE

The Magellan Forest Reserve track, only 10 minutes away from the city, runs for about 3.5 hrs. among almost untouched lenga and coigue forests. There, we will have all the way the most spectacular view of Punta Arenas city at our feet, with the Strait of Magellan and the Tierra del Fuego in the back. While we progress walking, wearing snow or trekking shoes, depending on the weather and terrain conditions, we can observe the most representative magellanic forest species, as well as the bird communities that remain in the region in the winter season.
